Disgusting that so many "educators" have fallen prey to the lies and misinformation spread by these pro-palestinian groups who are simply fronts for the terrorists. And the NEA should read some history books. If it weren't for Jews, the union itself would not exist. Learn history, folks. Don't just follow the latest trend.

No culture war to see here... just move along and believe all of this is trivial and not worth getting all worked up. After all, educators have the best interests of our children in mind, donchaknow... hardly a lick of anti-Western, anti-liberal, anti-Semitic, pro-Islamic, pro-Maoist ideology hard at work targeting those who teach our kids how to turn them into good little activists.

This is a completely, factually incorrect retelling of what happened at the RA; especially the description of the debate there were not jeers and boos for the Jewish educators speaking for the ADL, and there were many Jewish educators who spoke AGAINST the ADL.

This is an absolute fabrication.

I am chair of the NEA Jewish Affairs Caucus. Your story is half true. This is what happened. For the ADL item, it was created by a member from Jewish Voices of Palestine and a member from Educators for Palestine. When NEA staff asked them about the item and refer it, they said that they wanted NEA to take down the old ADL links from the new website, which they did. Then the makers decided not to refer and put it to a debate, which didn’t need to happen. The NEA attorney labels the item a “boycott” and attached the policy to it, which was, if it passed, the item would go to the Executive Committee for approval, the Board for approval, and then back to the RA for approval next year. The item passed. So now it is at the EC. I don’t think they will pass it since they didn’t want it to begin with. We will see what happens. The boos and jeers came when 2 supporters lied about my caucus discriminating against their friends, which, of course, was not true. They said horrible things about ADL, which also wasn’t true.

The second slide you showed had to do with with an item from the Equal Opportunity Now/ By Any Means Necessary people. The original item was about the rise of facism. They tried to amendment it to include the Israel-Hamas War. NEA ruled it out so they had to debate the original item, which failed.

The Jewish Affairs Caucus members did our work for the week. All our items passed except one, which NEA already did the work. We are prioritizing educating people about antisemitism and how it affects Jewish students, members, families, and communities.

Annice, I ask this as a very serious question. Our children attend public k-12 within 45 min of Portland/Beaverton. I’m sure the majority of educators in our district attended conference. Not only is Oregon disastrous in regard to educational outcomes, close to last in the country, but the antisemitism, anti-Americanism, numerous Teach Palestine “teach ins”focus on “equity” equal outcomes for all, not equal opportunities, etc, has us around 95% sure we’re pulling them out. From your perspective, are there reasons we should reconsider? If yes, what are they? Ty.

The delegates had to be elected by their local union and there is a limit to the number of representatives each local can send so there really isn't a way that "the majority of educators" in your district could attend. It's not a conference open to all, it's a Representative Assembly gathering to do the business of NEA.

I am not Annice, but another member of the Jewish Affairs Caucus. I believe in public school education, but I leave the decision in your hands as to whether or not your students feel safe in their classrooms. Whether or not you decide to pull your students, I would suggest that you be very clear with your administration and your school board so they know that they have a problem that needs addressing.
