Liberty Union High School District presenting "Voices" Ethnic Studies textbook for 30 day public review
"Voices" has been used in LUHSD classes since July 2024
At the next LUHSD board meeting to be held on April 23rd, the board will present the “Voices” textbook currently being used in its Introduction to Ethnic Studies classroom for 30 day review for parents and community members. The “Voices” textbook has already been signed off on by teachers and administration. According to them, “Voices” addresses “Board adopted instructional standards” to a “superior” standard. The textbooks will cost the district $23,287.30.
So what is in the textbook? A small sample of what is already being presented to LUHSD Grade 9 students
In Unit 1: Understanding Race and Ethnicity, students will learn about “Whiteness”:
In the United States, White people sometimes view themselves as “raceless” because they have grown up in a nation that views them as the norm…this view of Whiteness as “normal” situates all other races as inferior and foreign, even “un-American”…as immigration changed the US social hierarchy, groups including Irish Americans, Italian Americans, Asian Americans and Jewish Americans have experienced “Whitening”, or being absorbed into the expanding category of being called White.
The over three hundred page textbook devotes two of those pages to the Jewish community in which it concedes an uptick in antisemitism but gives no hint as to why this might be:
Parents and community members will have thirty days to review the textbook and give feedback on a book already being implemented in LHUSD schools…I wonder if they’ll think it’s $23,287.30 well spent.
Good grief. And the indoctrination of Critical Theory (which we are assured is NOT taught in public schools) continues on the public dime.
